Reverend Spencer Francis Barrett

Rev. Barrett was licensed to preach in the African Methodist Episcopal
church in 1975. He was the pastor of Bailey A.M.E. Church in Everett,
Washington, Primm Tabernacle A.M.E. Church in Seattle, Washington; and
Walker Temple A.M.E. Church in Los Angeles, California. Just before coming
to Bethel, he was the pastor of First A.M.E. Church in Las Vegas from
1995 to 2003. Reverend Barrett was appointed to Bethel A.M.E. Church
of Kansas City, Missouri on November 11, 2003.
He graduated from the University of Portland with a Bachelor of Arts
Degree in Social Services, and received a Master of Divinity Degree in
Psychology of Religion and Pastoral Care at Turner Seminary-Interdenominational
Theological Center of Atlanta, Georgia.
As pastor at First A.M.E., Reverend Barrett was very active, bringing
two weekly bible studies, three Sunday Worship services, and a host of
events and programs throughout the year. His vision for the church stays
on continued growth and building God’s Kingdom. In spite of his
busy schedule, he reached out daily to the lost and the needy, preaching
the Gospel, and leading people to Jesus.
As a community leader, Reverend Barrett advocates improved wages and
health care for workers, as well as dignity in the workplace. As President
of the Las Vegas Branch of the NAACP, he focused on all aspects of youth
empowerment and education. His election brought a new NAACP Charter back
to the city of Las Vegas.
Reverend Barrett is married to Mary Barrett and they have three children.
